George Thomas, Founder

George Thomas was born in St. Louis, Missouri, and graduated from Vashon High School. He received his Bachelors of Business Administration in August 1996 from Tennessee State University.

Before founding the EEOG in 1999, Thomas’ previous job experience including serving as an Industrial Training Specialist, III for the Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development, Retirement Specialist for the Tennessee Department of the Treasury, and Program Specialist III at the Metropolitan Nashville Public Health Department.

As Founder, President and CEO of EEOG, Thomas’s job entails fundraising, recruiting volunteers, and networking with community leaders, educators and professionals about the importance of civic responsibility.

Major media outlets such as The Tennessean, Nashville Pride, Tennessee Tribune, TSU Meter, and NewsChannel 5 have recognized the efforts of Thomas and the EEOG.  Additionally, Thomas is the 2005 recipient for the “Youth + Excellence = Success Award,” presented by 100 Black Men of Middle Tennessee.

Thomas has high aspirations to be a world leader in public service. His colleagues describe him as a visionary, optimistic, caring, trustworthy man who is focused on community and public policy issues.  His main career goal is to be a senator, enabling him to expand his passion as public servant and secure a positive future for youth.

Thomas is also a proud member of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. He is currently pursuing a MBA in Public Administration at the TSU Institute of Government in Nashville, TN.

2011 – Finalist for the Nashville Emerging Leader Award, Community Service and Non-Profit Area

2011, 2010 and 2007 – Awarded three $100,000 grants from the Tennessee Department of Education, utilized to support students participation in EEOG programs for at-risk, under-served low-income students in public education.

2010/2011 – Business Partner of the Year at Fayette-Ware High School, Somerville, Tennessee

2011 – Nominated for Leadership Nashville 2012 Class

2009 – Finalist Nashville Chamber of Commerce, Community Service and Non-profit Area

2009 – Nashville Outstanding Citizen of Year – South Nashville Seventh Day Adventist Church

2009-11 – Member, CABLE (Tennessee’s largest and most established network of diverse professionals committed to connecting women and opportunity)

2008 – Clark Memorial United Methodist Church Community Service Award
